Ardha Chandrasana

Half Moon Pose

Drishti: the top thumb

How to

With the right foot forward of the left, take the left hand to the left hip.  Bend the right knee and lean forward to take the right hand to the floor.  As you lean weight forward off of the back foot and into the right foot, let the hand come forward on the floor.  Lift the back leg as you do this.

Now, try to shift your right shoulder forward enough that you can take some weight into the right hand.  This helps so that you can use both points of contact with the floor (foot and hand) to support yourself and find balance.

Modifications

Keep the top hand on the top hip, rather than raising it up.  Keep the gaze either to the side wall or down to the floor.

You may also keep the top hand on the floor and just work on the balance with the one leg lifted.
