Evil in Hommlet

The evil woman Chenashi. Kala almost fell under the pain of her torture. But Chenashi underestimated Kala, and died.
In Hommlet we were approached at the Welcome Wench Inn by a man named Shandrillion, who wanted us to help him investigate the ancient Temple of the Dark Man. (The Dark Man is an old name, and we already knew some of the folklore surrounding that name - see  The Dark Man and other aspects.) We agreed, although Y'Xyrel did not trust this man.

Before departing, however, we quickly got ourselves into trouble, when Y'Xyrel investigated the troubles of Karlan the Miller. We were sneaking around Karlan's house (Kala had entered through the chimmney) when the evil ones who had kidnapped Karlan and his wife appeared. They hoped to find us and silence us forever!!

Hearing the lock being picked, we quickly hid behind the Miller's furniture. A fog crept into the room, and several men and women could be heard behind its shrouding mists. A great battle ensued, in which Kala was overcome by the fear of a great horned beast. While she struggled to overcome her fear, Y'Xyrel was taken down by none other than the Assassin Shandrillion! He was in league with these cultists!

Kala overcame her fear and fought valiantly, using her speed and skill to overcome heavily armed and armoured attackers. She led them to the second floor, and then dove off the balcony onto the street, slowing her fall in the Shintao way.

But she could not abandon Y'Xyrel, and she went back into the building, hoping to find him before the attackers came downstairs. Alas, for the Deceiver Shandrillon waited for her, and struck her down while cloaked under invisibility!

The woman Chenashi and the leader, Dunrat, took Kala to the cellar of the Mill next door, where they had created a makeshift torture chamber. There the Miller and his wife lay, not dead, but under the pains of torture. But Kala's talents served her well, for she was able to struggle free of her bonds and surprise her would-be torturers! She struck Chenashi hard, burying her nose into her brain and killing her.

Dunrat swore vengeance, for he had loved Chenashi in his perverted way, and attacked Kala. But the Shinsei are fordimable opponents one-on-one, and Kala wrestled him into submission, and death. Then she was able to find the wounded Y'Xyrel, who had been hidden beneath the stairs behind his fabulous Elven Cloak.

Together they searched the houses, and found many interesting and valuable items: gold, rings, scrolls of magic, a strange black bead; and Dunrat's Journal and a letter he carried.

After attending to Y'Xyrel's wounds, and bringing the tortured Miller and his wife to the Temple of Pelor for aid, Kala and Y'Xyrel discussed what to do next. From Dunrat's journal and letter it seemed the Moathouse was very important, so they decided to set off for there. They had hoped to get some of the more mysterious items they'd found identified; but the Canonis of St. Cuthbert would not speak to them.

So they set off for the moathouse, and found it to be an empty, ruined keep. Someone had placed wooden planks on the rotten drawbridge recently, but all was quiet, until ... A blue DRAGON the size of a large horse came out of the Keep!

Kala and Y'Xyrel fought valiantly, but the dragon would have had us if not for Kala's lucky decision to throw Dunrat's black bead, which was now in her pocket, at the creature. The bead burst in a black cloud and the dragon flew off.
