On The Road - Journey 3

An account of our Motorcycle trip from Calgary to Far Away and hopefully Back Again

This chapter takes us from the West coast of California at Eureka to Red Bluff in the central valley (where it was very hot) and then on to Lake Tahoe on the California Nevada border. We drove Highway 36 which is considered one of the best motorcycle highways in California. It was cold and foggy on the west side but as we travelled over the mountains the sky cleared and it got very warm.

From Red Bluff we gained altitude into the Lassen Volcanic park where there is still snow visible in the higher hills. The air was cool until Truckee (quite the little tourist town where Bob won a beer in a bar because his seat number was picked from a jar!). From here to Lake Tahoe it was very touristy and slow riding.

All in all, a good day with decent weather, clear skies, suprisingly quiet roads and great riding.

The ponderosa pines are always so lovely!

The east side of these mountains are drier and sparse and make for pretty hills
